Neory came to the Night Hearth after Sheluth had settled in for the evening. The Dragon was getting even bigger with each passing day it seemed, and while she would not surpass her mother, Neory was certain that her formerly "little gold" would definitely be a grand dragon, one that would make Telgar proud.
She was slightly tired, but she wasn't quite ready to turn in for the night herself, and she did not want to miss her weekly meeting with her brother, even if she had had to move it from lunch time to evening this week. Her hair was brushed and her clothes neat, but quite simple. She had not put much effort into her appearance for a little bit now - while she looked neat and presentable, she had simply had other priorities for the past little while.
She got herself some klah - not something she drank often, but decided tonight would be a night for it - and sweetened it while she waited on her big brother. She had heard some rumors and wanted to find out the truth - and to tease him. She giggled to herself as she thought about that.

K'dyn arrived at the Night Hearth in his riding leathers as usual. Though many things had changed since he last spoke to his sister he appeared to be the same. No doubt they were going to talk about things that made him uncomfortable. How did he get talked into this whole meeting with his sister thing to begin with? Oh right... he owed her...somehow.
Stop being so negative. At least you are not covered in icky goop. Its not like I'm not doing everything I can to keep your hide well. The Brown left it at that, he was just trying to point out that things could be worse. In truth things could be.
Spotting his sister, he walked over to her. "Fancy meeting you here..." He grined. "How are you little sister?"

Neory grinned seeing her big brother and gave him a quick hug, not too long cause she knew it made him uncomfortable if it was anything other than quick. "Hey, big brother. I'm well, tired, but good." She looked at him closely to see if she could discern any difference, though she did hope that at least some of the rumors were true.
"Before I ask all the embarrassing stuff," she winked at him and then sat, "How's Ortath doing? Any of MasterHealer Deavon's ointments making any difference yet?" She'd been there when the older man had examined the Brown dragon and stated his plan, so she knew as well as K'dyn and Ortath that it might take many many tries before they found something that did the trick. She was just glad that someone was trying to help though!
Yes, she was dying to ask the other questions, but she was concerned for both her brother and his dragon, and the other stuff could wait.

He tried not to squirm too much at being hugged, she was after all his sister and it wasn't uncommon for other people to hug in public. K'dyn just wasn't too fond of being touchy feely with people whether related or not. Maybe if dragons hugged he would do it more often. f course who wouldn't do anything for their dragon.
"Ortath is alright. Overconfident is a good word for his behavior lately. Daevon is working on it but we are still fixing some of the kinks in the formula. So Ortath's still wearing some of that gunky stuff that he doesn't much care for." He didn't know what she was going to ask him but he hoped she was at least a little bit suprised by his actions. He never did like being predictable.
"How is Sheluth? I hear that she has grown quite a lot..." Hopefully they would be moving his sister to a Junior Weyrwoman's weyr. There were four of them and most of them had been unoccupied for many many turns. He didn't like to think that his sister and her dragon would be crowded in the barracks with the greens and their female riders.

She kept it short. He'd just have to get used to the fact that his little sister cared about him and was happy to see him. So her compromise, though she didn't discuss with him so he might not love it, was that she hugged him only briefly.
"I'm glad that Daevon is able to help Ortath. So it sounds like one or more of his mixtures is showing promise? That's fantastic! Hopefully the gunk will end soon then." She grinned. It did sound like good news after all, though she knew it was possible that she was over reading what he had said, but some kinks in the formula sounded like progress was being made.
"She's well. And she has! It takes soooo much longer to wash her now. She's so much bigger, and yet no where near as big as her mother or the adult bronzes. Its insane to think she's still going to get bigger!" She chuckled, but the truth was she proud of how her formerly "little gold" was growing.
"Sooo... I've heard some interesting rumors about my big brother. Ortath has won two flights? I didn't think you even liked flights. And someone, though I told them that they had to be wrong because my big brother hated conniving women, swore that they saw you with a girl." She winked, and it would be clear from the way she emphasized the word "with" that she didn't mean hanging out with one. SHe also hadn't said what she claimed, it was just fun to tease K'dyn. "Would that be Kanoni?" That time her voice was the well known sing-song tone of a younger sister clearing teasing her big brother about a girl.

"Just wish it didn't take so long. You know how patient Ortath can be." He might as well be asking the dragon not to fly with the kind of patience he had for finding something that would work on his hide. The brown was forever making things hard on K'dyn. Dragons seemed to complicate things as it was. That wasn't to say he didn't love Ortath, he did, it was just a hassle to deal with all of his issues and then his attitude about how long the solutions were taking.
Winning flights wasn't helping and unfortunately that was the topic his sister next brought up. "Ortath decided he was done waiting..." K'dyn did somewhat regret his flights but at the same time they were not all bad. "Unfortunately he won his first two flights and now thinks himself invinicible." K'dyn would love to give his dragon a talking to but he wouldn't listen. Now he was going to be winning a third flight most likely. K'dyn just hoped the dragon didn't go around bragging about it.
He paused becqause the next part wasn't as easy to talk about. Not when his sister already knew it and simply wanted him to say it outloud. "Why can't people mind their own business?" K'dyn wanted to mutter omething unintelligible and let that be the end of it. The things he had to do for women... "Of course it was Kanoni." Who else would it be?

"I really doubt people mind their own business anywhere, Kadyn. But I didn't go spread it anymore, and I won't after talking to you either." She grinned warmly to her big brother. Gossip was a part of life at the weyr, and Neory would be willing to bet that it was a big part of life in cot holds, major holds, and craft holds. Neory was pretty sure that it was simply a part of the way people were and interacted with each other.
"You don't sound particularly happy about it, or is that just cause you didn't get to tell me yourself? I promise I won't do the whole 'I told you so' thing just yet." She was positively grinning, though she did not squeal or squeeze her brother! "So, tell me about it big brother. Is she ok with the fact that Ortath won two flights? Are you going to limit him to flying her green now?"
She resisted telling him that she was proud of him for letting his barriers down enough to let Kanoni in. She did note to herself that the next thing she needed to do was talk to Kanoni. She wanted to get to know the woman who could break through her brother's rough exterior.
She smirked, "And I don't think that Ortath is the only one of the two of you who is impatient." She winked, "Yours is just in a different way."

"That makes me feel so much better about all this, really." He spoke with sarcasm, though it was not uncommon for him to be sarcastic when it ame to the obvious. "Couldn't be further from unhappy about the situation." He was entirely too happy to let on that he was that happy. It went against his very being that he was in a serious relationship at all. He couldn't wait till it was his sister's turn.
Oh he was sure to get an earful about Bronzeriders, information that he really didn't need to know. By then he might have risen in the ranks a little. Luckily the Weyr didn't focus on sibling relations so that his Wingleader wouldn't punish him for his sister breaking his heart or something like that. He was patient enough to wait for his turn to tease her. In fact he decided he would tell her the entire story so she wouldn't make up any romantic details.
" Well you remember me telling you that Kanoni hadn't been around me much...lately." He was the reason for that to his shame. " The other day I was taking a walk around the lake, trying to clear my head. After all I wasn't exactly thrilled with Ortath winning flights. I don't want to hurt anyone." He paused knowing he was an anomoly, most brownriders could care less.
"I heard Kanoni talking to herself, she was upset, and talking about some guy." No one would have guessed it was him from that. He wanted this to be interesting. "I suprised her but she was not excited to see me, or so it seemd. I must have been right that she was avoiding me then. So she congratulated us on Ortath winning flights. I can't deny I was sort of shocked that she brought it up. She was never really one to listen to gossip. If I weren't so dense I probably would have known what was going on from that but you know how I am." He shrugged and sighed. Sometimes he didn't like himself.
"Of course she brought up Yanth's rising soon right after that. The conversation was at that point out of my control. Then she did what she always does when she can't handle a situation, she ran." He knew he had hurt her more than anyone but he had never meant to. "I went after her as quickly as I realized what was going on. She tripped and fell, so I was able to catch up. After that I was better able to gget my thoughts together. We talked for a long time and decided that we would rather be together and risk losing our friendship than to let this pass us by." He wouldn't say anything that could compromise Kanoni's honor. She was holdbred and not so open about things that he and his sister had grown up around. "Now you know and can try not to listen to rumors that it was otherwise." K'dyn made no comment on his patience, he was almost as patient as she was.

Neory listened closely to her brother's recounting of the story. Honestly, she tended to be wary of gossip. It tended to be based on the truth, but how loosely could be a completely different issue all together. However, she knew that her brother had been having issues with Kanoni and when she had heard this particular rumor, she had hoped it meant that he had finally gotten over himself and given them a chance.
"You're not overly dense, K'dyn. You've just avoided anything having to do with relationships for so long that... you're kind of cutely clueless." Well, she thought other girls might find it cute. He was her big brother, that she'd seen other men who were clueless, and it could be cute. "And apparently Kanoni is willing to deal with that."
She smiled, "I glad you finally decided to give this a try K'dyn. And I do know that you don't want to hurt anyone. I also know that you do not want to be hurt. I'm just glad you decided to take a chance."
"And why would I listen to anyone else's account of what happened?" Well, she'd listen to Kanoni's if she could befriend the other woman - though to be honest she wondered if she would want to hear someone else tell her about kissing or anything else her brother. He was her brother! So maybe not so much.
"I'm glad your happy, K'dyn. I really am." She smiled. She didn't press the patience thing either. She considered herself impatient often - wasn't she the one who had bemoaned whether or not she'd ever impressed. Though she also knew comparitively she and her brother were rather patient persons. Even any impatience K'dyn showed over Ortath's situation - well, they'd both dealt with it long enough that that would be understandable.
