Rynien nodded and her smile grew at him calling her "Ry." She liked that, though she did not think anyone had ever called her that before.
"All right, I'll try not to worry about it. I can't promise anything, but I'll try." She was smiling genuinely at him now.
She took a bite of her meat and when she finished it she grinned at him, "So what kind of dance would you like to practice?" She hoped it would be something that would be a close dance, but she would be content if he wanted to remain just friends too.
In fact she kind of wondered what was wrong with her. She never acted like this with a man. She was not a virgin, but she usually liked to take a while to get to know a guy, she never felt like this, and definitely not when she barely new someone. Maybe it was just from hw he'd taken care of her when she was hurt... yeah, that was it. Uh-huh.

He relaxed when she seemed to, and began to cut the meat on his plate meticulously. He wouldn't eat it before it was completely cut, another byproduct of his obsessive nature. Z'ir considered the question posed to him, and continued cutting. What do you think, Az? he tried to include the brown, feeling the waves of resentment from the dragon.
I think you should spend more time with me, not her.
Obviously, the dragon wasn't going to cooperate. Z'ir set the knife down and forked a piece of meat, smiling over at Rynien. "Well, something impressive. A dance that not too many people know how to do. It'd provide the most impact, and perhaps make a few people jealous" he said, still thinking. "A tango!" His exclaimation was punctuated by the first bite of his meat, looking rather smug. Something on that level of partnering would certainly get him closer to Rynien, something he hadn't been able to stop thinking about since he'd met her.

Rynien's eyes widened and she almost choked on the piece of brocolli she had in her mouth. The Tango. The Tango was... she thought she remembered hearing another girl describe it as sex with clothes on. It was a dance with some serious heat in it.
She forced herself to chew and swallow the food. "Um... that's... that's... that's a dance." Rynien nodded.
And then she realized what she had said. That's a dance. Wow, Ry. Way to demonstrate that intelligence of yours. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, "I mean, that's quite a dance. I ..." She looked at him, and there was something about his smug expression, "I think it would take a lot of practice to master that."

He stared at her after her astoundingly deep comment on his choice. An amused grin preceded a chuckle. He’d apparently surprised her, and the reaction was cute. He made a mental note to do it again sometime.
Z’ir listened intently while she rephrased her words, and felt his face heat slightly. “A lot of practice, eh?” he nearly tripped over the phrase, forking another piece of meat and chewing on it. He was not adverse to the idea, but the thought of them practicing that dance often…well, of course his mind bolted off on a tangent.
He took care to keep his smile in place as he swallowed and maneuvered himself delicately around those thoughts. “We should start soon, then.” He said, choosing a safe mix of words that wouldn’t betray where his mind really was.

Ryn blinked a bit and took a bite of her own vegetables. For some reason she found him tripping over those words to be cute. Maybe he just realized the nature of the dance he chose and what a lot of practice would mean. "You'd already said you'd want to practice a lot. Just that dance requires... complete trust, so lots of practice."
And Rynien had never even tried to Tango, the trust it required was simply more than she'd ever been able to bring to bear for any man she'd ever met. She wondered if she'd be able to now, or if she'd disappoint them both.
"Um, yeah. Sure. Just let me know when and I'll be there." She grinned, though there was something in her eyes, fear maybe.

Z’ir smiled slowly at her, forking a few pieces at once while she spoke. He tried to assess the look in her eyes as he chewed, finding the motion handy for when he wanted to think. He couldn’t place a name for the emotion harbored there, so he put it off. If he couldn’t figure it out, he wouldn’t worry about it.
“We’ll have to start basic, since I don’t remember the harder steps. That should give us enough time to decide if we’re comfortable enough with each other to go through with this,” his words were gentle and thought out. He didn’t want Rynien to get scared off just yet. Not while his mind was still where it was and no resolution for the desire they were creating.
“How about a few days from now? I have some Wing business to take care of, but I should be free in about two days.” While he was eager to start, he thought waiting a few days might be best. It would give him time to prepare.

She nodded in agreement to the starting basic as she tore off a piece of her roll and nibbled on it. After a moment, she spoke, "Um, that's good cause, I've never done the tango. I don't know any of the steps." She smiled lopsidedly, "Hope that's not a problem... I'm sure you're a good teacher."
At the suggestion of "a few days" she nodded, as she chewed on another piece of bread. "Mm, a couple of days would be good. I need to make sure that I have time my own wing duties and everything, though I don't think it should be a problem..." She looked down slightly and sighed, "Still on limited duty from cutting open my foot."
She chuckled a bit, kind of self-depracatingly. "I promise, I won't be that clumsy dancing. I'm not usually clumsy at all."

He blinked as he swallowed a mouthful of meat. He'd forgotten about her foot entirely. They really would have to take it basic until she could stand to dance on it for more than an hour or so. "Well, then we'll just do a little at a time until your foot heals. The basic steps are the hardest to learn, since everything after that builds on the basic knowledge." He had learned the tango from a woman Turns ago back home, and remembering her made him smile briefly.
She had been pretty, but Rynien was far more pleasing to the eye, and she interested him far more than the woman had. "The tango is fairly easy to learn, too. Easier to learn from someone you trust," he added. "I hope..." he started, but stopped, not sure why he'd wanted to say that out loud. But now that it was out in the open, he had to finish it anyway. "I hope you can come to trust me." The words were awkward to him, but he said them without hitch or blush.
Oh come on. 'I hope you can come to trust me'? the brown's tone cut into his mind causticly, making the man wince. He motioned quickly to Rynien that it wasn't anything she did. What is your problem, Az? I finally found someone I enjoy being around and you can't seem to handle it. The brown didn't reply, and so Z'ir resolved again to get to the bottom of the matter.
He smiled again, focusing on the woman eating with him. "Believe me, with all the practice we'll be doing, you wont misstep when a Gather comes around."

"Oh! Its mostly better now. I just am still not allowed to go between yet. My wingsecond just kind of wants to make sure that its completely healed first." She did limp still some, but it was not particularly noticeable unless someone watched her walk very closely.
Rynien nodded as he talked about the Tango being fairly easy to learn. Well, she learned quickly, even if she did tend to analyze before actually trying to do something. That wouldn't be a problem. And then she heard what else he said and she blinked. And she blushed.
She smiled at him, "I hope so too. I haven't had a real friend in a while... other than Irath of course!" Then he winced and she started to say something before he motioned. That made Ryn blink. She wondered what his dragon - she couldn't imagine what else would have made him wince randomly - could have said.
She chuckled a bit, "You know we're assuming there even will be a Gather. Though I guess there are Gathers somewhere all the time. It'd be a shame to do all that work and not get to show off."

"Good! I'd hate to see a serious injury come out of a misstep," he said about her foot. He understood her Wingsecond's concern, and felt the same tinge of concern for her. Dancing was far from being as dangerous as going between, but it still wore out those who hadn't danced in a while.
He'd noticed her blush just before Azerith had spoken, and by the time he'd come back it was gone. Z'ir was disappointed he hadn't had the opportunity to enjoy the sight. Though, with the tango he assumed both of them would end up blushing quite a bit.
"Oh...we are, aren't we?" He paused for a few moments, chewing reflectively on the last of his meat. He was a fast eater, even when he tried to take his time. The Weyr may not even throw a Gather, though Z'ir would certainly make sure the idea came up the next time he was talking to his Wingleader. "Like you said, there's always a Gather somewhere. If we have to, we can just jump over to one, do some dancing, then come back. It would be a waste to not actually dance."

Rynien chuckled slightly, "I'll be fine. Really. It wasn't that horribly deep a injury... I mean it hurt... a lot... and bled a lot. But, you cleaned it and I've been keeping it clean and everything. It looks normal and all. Just more like a bruise now..." A bruise that opens slightly and bleeds a little bit if she steps wrong. She shook her head ever so slightly. It was fine.
"Yep. After all, we are dragon riders. We can pretty much go anywhere we want anytime that we're not on duty." She grinned. "Who knows maybe we can go to all the gathers ever. We'll become widely known as the dancing Riders." She giggled, "Ok, so maybe not. We need to help make sure Riders are respected."

Are you still eating with that woman? the brown’s question kept Z’ir from speaking. He sighed patiently and let his eyes drift away. He really felt it was rude to ignore the greenrider this much during their dinner, but he had no choice. Azerith would pester him until he answered.
Yes, I am. And I am enjoying it, thank you. Is there a problem? he asked coolly, offering a distant smile to Ry. It took the dragon a moment, but he did reply. Yes. Z’ir sighed and forked the rest of the meat on his plate and chewed. Fine.
His smile flowed into a more real one, and he looked over at Rynien again. “Azerith is being a pest. We should probably finish up here.” While he didn’t apologize – a rider really shouldn’t have to apologize for his dragon – his voice was apologetic. He enjoyed the greenrider’s company immensely, and took solace only in the fact that they had agreed to meet later.

Rynien had finished most of her dinner when Z'ir went distant, obviously talking to his dragon. She surprised herself by sighing when the Brown rider said that they needed to finish up. If she had expected that reaction, she would have suppressed it, but she had sighed before she realized she wanted to.
Her eyes widened and her hand flew over her mouth for a moment, "I'm sorry. I understand your dragon needs you. I didn't mean to imply that that's wrong. I just, was enjoying this and hate for it to end." Which was more than she meant to admit, but she had to explain the sigh!
Rynien did supress the grimace, though her face reddened again with the realization she probably was not making this any better, "Um... so I'll see you in a couple of days to start learning the tango... um, where at?" Yeah, there we go. Leave on firming plans. That doesn't seem eager. Nope. Not at all....

Her sigh brought a grin to his face, and he didn't bother hiding it. He continued to grin at her, indicating nothing while she tried to stumble around an explination that didn't make her blush. Though Z'ir rather liked it when she did. She was unaffected, and he found it refreshing and it kept him coming back to her.
The brownrider stood - after carefully arranging his utensils - and walked over to her side of the table. He leaned over and kissed her sweetly on the cheek, brushing some of her hair away from her face. "I enjoyed dinner, too. And there will be plenty more time for us to enjoy," he smiled warmly at her, then added, "I hope?"
He brushed the small question off and offered a hand to help her stand before he left to go chew out his dragon for being such a pest. "We can practice in my room, or take a dragon somewhere else. I haven't seen the ocean in a while...maybe we can go there one time? But for the first, how aobut just sticking to my weyr?"

Rynien blinked, realizing that he was grinning at her, apparently all amused. She played with a bit of hair on the side of her face utnil he came over and kissed her on the cheek and gently brushing her hair back.
For a moment, Rynien was speechless. She just looked at him, and then she smiled warmly. "I hope so too." Her response was soft, barely above a whisper. While her cheeks remained colored, her eyes held something, a smile, maybe a trace of a promise, of hope.
Rynien accepted his hand and stood, there would be a slight indication of the injured foot, most of her weight was on her left instead of her right. "That... wow, I've never seen the ocean. That'd be nice. But, ok, you're weyr it is. So, I'll see you in a couple of days."
She would smile to him, "I look forward to it, Z'ir. Thank you for a good time."
