The retired Weyrwoman smiled, R'net was her favorite family member. Bringing him up always made her smile. Partly because he reminded her of herself and partly because he was like her own child. "R'net is a very endearing young man. I'm sure your child will grow to be as great if not better, without the Ranker mentality..." Being related to the Weyrwoman created expectations. Yet her own children had not impressed higher than brown. Her Grandson, who's mother rode no dragon and actually feared them, rode a Bronze. It was still an enigma, what made people worthy of a dragon. Even if your whole family rode, you could be left standing without one.
"In that respect you are luckier than I. As a greenrider you will have more free time than I ever did. No one would prevent you from seeing your child though we want the child to think of the entire Weyr as family not just who its related to biologically. It creates a sense of unity..." Marisol smiled knowing that most people raised in the Weyr were fine even knowing and occassionally seeing their biological parents.
"Is the father a rider?" If Nisha had been a drudge for a while it could be just as likely that the father was too. In which case she needn't bother with fostering. It would save the Headwoman a big headache if she already knew who would be taking care of the child when it was old enough to be parted from its mother. "I will of course be around if ever you need help. I've not spent a lot of time with children after they've been weaned but all mothers must take care of their own children until they are off milk."

Nisha smiled, thinking about how nice it would be if her own child did grow up to be charming, and always in and out of trouble. And she wouldn't be the only one raising it either. And her child wouldn't be one of the ones teased because it didn't have a rider family, nor one of the ones who had to be happy with the occasional present from a busy parent.
Really, Marisol was right, this child was going to have the best of both worlds. And if it had come after Weyrling train- well, that was enough of those regrets. It was coming now, and she would be happy for the now, and not the then.
When Marisol asked her who the father was, Nisha paused and thought. Mentally thinking of the last time she'd had a period, who'd she lain with after that, and kept coming up with women. In fact, they were all women, except for, well, Rory. She'd suspected when she realized she wa pregnant, but now she was sure.
She was pregnant with Rory's baby, the result of a Queen Flight.
It was all very funny. And Nisha's nearly hysterical laughter proved it.
"Sorry." Nisha giggled, regaining control over herself. "It's just, this baby and Barsamith were conceived at the same time. And ah, yes, the father is a drudge. And his sister is a very good foster mother, if he doesn't want to foster it himself."

Marisol almost laughed herself. "Well that is most convenient. The baby will be the child of dragonriding mother and a father who will be around to raise it. Thats quite the opposite of most arrangements." She wondered what drudge it was. "Even if his sister needs to help him with it, she probably has experience if she fosters more children than she undoubtedly has herself. "
She often wished she had had the time for her children. "It will also be a good thing for you, Nisha. The baby will grow up knowing its parent's personalities and habits. As much as I like the system the Weyr has for children, I often think back to my own childhood and feel guilty. My children couldn't come to me in times of illness or trouble. I was too busy. My mother was always around for me. My father wasn't too far off usually either. Its a wonder my children talk to me. Err, I mean the two that live here." Truth be told, R'net's mother never spoke to Marisol.
"The only thing that may be trouble is explaining this condition to Barsamith. She will not understand why you are pregnant and she is too young to have the how explained. Its best to speak with the WEyrlingMaster about how he thinks you should go about broaching the subject with her. She might have known all along though. Dragons are very perceptive of things we often miss, especially those with higher empathy like greens."

Nisha nodded drinking up all of information that Marisol was giving her. "I'm sure Allior will give him all the help he needs. They're very close." Nisha said, sounding very assured, and pleased that thinks were at least working out. It was a lot better than she had feared.
"I agree. And I'm glad that you've got good kids out of the deal." And grand kids. And great-grand kids. But Nisha wasn't going to bring that up. She didn't want to make Marisol feel older, or weird she was helping someone out who was almost as old as her grandson.
"And I'll be sure to have the Weyrling Master with me when I try to explain about this to Barsamith. Maybe we could describe it in terms of Dragons and their clutches?" Nisha looked up at the weyrwoman, her liquid eyes hopeful.
"Have any other ideas for me?"
