Dyleon gave the man a cold, borderline incredulous look. He didn't seem to have completely understood the boy's words or else he wouldn't have repeated them. Unless he was just shocked that he was owning up to his actions. "Yes," he confirmed dryly, "I just punched her." He sincerely hoped he wouldn't have to repeat it. Surely the man was more intelligent than that.
Dy rolled his eyes when the man launched into a speech, but held his tongue during it. It wouldn't help him any to lash out now, not against this man who seemed to hold a high rank if he was under the authority to pounish him directly. He had not yet learned to read the knots most riders kept on their shoulders. He wondered what made the girl so valued, though he supposed the fact that she was alive made her valuable to the Weyr. Back at the Hold, he could have gotten away with this. Not here. Not that the fact would deter him from future harassment.
He decided to keep that to himelf when he spoke up next. "You're right about the no remorse bit, there," he mumbled, raising his tone to audible with: "Dyleon, Candidate and I look to no one but myself." His words seethed with thick pride, irritatingly so.
It didn't seem to phase the boy any that he would be punished, and if anything, he seemed proud of the fact. As much as he would find his punishment distasteful, he enjoyed that someone was making a fuss over one little punch. Of course he wished he'd been able to do more...
Meanwhile, Kaelsah sighed as he glanced over at his brother. "I'm afraid he doesn't care," he murmured, then left the older boy alone. Dyleon would be able to fend for himself. He turned light eyes to the girl with a soft smile. "Thank you anyway. I'm Kaelsah."
