Jenya stepped out into the early morning air and took a deep breath. She was dressed simply for her morning run, wearing a relatively pair of loosely fitted plain pants, in a simple black. Her shirt was snug fitted light blue which came just below her breasts, offering support and coverage more than anything else.
Jenya thought that first thing in the morning was the best time for a run, though Ragoth did not always agree with her. This morning, he had decided to rest rather than flying above her. Jenya was fully aware that it was because he was hoping there would be a Green flight today and did not want to waste his energy. She had to admit that she hoped he was right. It would be quite enjoyable to fly a Green. She smiled at the thought as she stretched.
As was normal, Jenya started off thinking she had not dressed well enough for the cool Telgar morning, but she knew full well that once she started running she would warm up quite comfortably.
Once she finished her stretches, making sure that she would not pull anything as she ran, she would begin to run. While this was not a sprint, but rather a paced distance run, she was still quite fast.
She would run for about an hour before she slowed down, walking for about ten minutes to cool down. There was nothing like a run to just think and enjoy some time to oneself in the busy life of the weyr.
Are you done now? We have to be at wingpractice soon
She laughed softly and would respond to her Dragon outloud, "Yes, Vain one. I am heading back to the weyr now."

Half Note was at it again. She must have seen something. Tipp was at her side waiting for the order to go after the younger canine. "Why do I feel she's still a puppy?" Amneris thought outloud shaking her head and giving herself a moment she went sprinting after the pup. "NOTE! COME HERE!" The canine stopped, looked back at her owner, yipped and then went off running today.
Lucky for the youth, she had long legs. Her gitar was secure as she ran so that it didn't move much. If she ever caught that canine she was going to kill her! Tipp ran next to Neris, thankfully. "Tipp, think you can catch her girl?" Tipp tilted her head up at the girl. "Bring her in." The older canine took off, exuding more grace than either girl or young canine. Neris laughed when she saw how quickly Tipp caught up.
Ugh if the canine kept this up, she would have to give her away. The Candidate Master already disliked Amneris, because she didn't attend lessons or do all her chores. That she had kept her pets made her even less well liked but if she couldn't control them she would not be allowed to keep them. Neris jogged passed a woman walking, nearly cutting her off. "Sorry!" She managed to say as she continued after her canines.

Jenya raised an eyebrow as the young woman jogged in front of her. Well, technically she'd had her run for the day, but she had seen the dogs, and the girl seemed to be a little be harried.
Well, hopefully, she wouldn't be too late for wing drills. She turned and jogged after the girl, "Need a hand catching the dogs?"
She did not know the girl, since she didn't spend much time at all with the candidates, but she was pretty sure that the Candidate Master was not a big fan of pets or of anything that took the candidates' attention away from their studies or chores.

"It's just the one. Tipp will try to herd her our way. Poor dear she really oughtn't be running at her age." Amneris continued as fast as her thin, long legs could take her. "She'll be tired soon but your more than welcome to come along. Note likes new people." She said, obviously reffering to one of the canines.
Running a hand through her loose, light blonde hair, she wondered what the rush was. She had forgotten why it was so important for her to go chasing the dog. Her eyes looked upward to the sky to judge the time better.
Sharding Shells of Faranth's Egg! How could she forget? If she missed another lesson... oh she was in deep. Amneris did not want to know how they punished Candidates. For her they wouldn't have her not stand because they knew she wasn't as interested in impressing as she was in her music and her canines. If they took Note away... no she wouldn't think about that now. She'd worry about that tomorrow.

She watched Amneris look to the sky, as if checking the sun. "Are you running behind? If Note is older and will tire soon, perhaps I can catch her." She was still warmed up, but cooled down enough to be breathing normally. While runners tended to do distance runs rather than sprints, she could put on a decent burst of speed when it was needed.
"Does she spoke easily? I don't want her to be afraid if I run after her, but I think I might be able to catch her." That was the key. If the animal was spooked and adrenaline kicked in, then Jenya's ability to catch her might be a whole different matter.
She figured the girl would know her dogs though, and if she said it would not be a problem, she'd see if she could help and keep the girl out of trouble. Unfortunately, as a Bluerider, she didn't rank enough to just make an excuse for the girl to keep the candidate master from assigning whatever punishment he chose.

"I'm always late." She said nonchalantly. It was part of her daily existance. If only people told her to be some place half a candlemark before she needed to be there at least she would be on time. "Oh Note is only two. She's fairly young but Tipp will catch her. She's faster than we are. I just want to get close enough to put the leash on Note."
Amneris was always unprepared for this sort of thing. When she didn't expect things to happen then they did. If Note would have listened she would have been on time for once this morning. Didn't the Candidate Master know that Harpers liked to sleep? Spook? Note? HAH!
"The only thing that scares my Canines are dragons. Only because they had not seen any before we moved to the Weyr a few sevendays ago."

"Ah. Well, in that case, I won't try to test myself against a couple of young dogs. I might be fast, but I'm not as fast as a four legged creature." Instead, she'd keep walking with her, keeping an eye out for the one dog to herd the other back to them.
"Alway late huh? Any particular reason why?" She knew when she was a candidate she tended to be both tarty and truant, simply because she had not wanted to be there in the first place.
"So how did you convince the Candidate master to let you keep your dogs?"

"I don't really go to lessons much as it is. I'm late because I am easily distracted." Amneris looked out at the canines. They were coming back towards them though quite a distance off. "Well the canines were part of my conditions to come. I told the Master Harper I wouldn't go to the Weyr without them. He wouldn't let me waste my life as a Harper when I had the chance to ride dragons." Amneris made it clear that coming to the Weyr had not been her decision.
"Anyway Harpers are very convincing so, the Candidate Master had no choice." she smirked. Most people would never understand the young girl and her wish to become a Harper rather than a rider. In fact she had yet to meet a single Candidate at the Weyr who didn't want to be a rider more than anything. They were a bit obsessed with dragons. She looked over at the woman next to her. As if truly looking at her for the first time.
She yawned a bit. Not that she slept that much but she preferred to stay up late and sleep in. She wondered what had the other woman out and about in the morning, she didn't give off that drudge vibe. "So are you a rider?" Amneris wasn't all that tactful and didn't realize that she had first insulted dragonriders (by not wanting to be one) and then assumed this woman was one of them.

Jenya laughed, though it was very much not at the young woman. "I was dragged here kicking and screaming myself. No matter how fast you are, you can't run away from your parents when they're runners too." She was very much not offended.
"I am a Rider now. Blue Ragoth is my dragon. And when a Blue impressed their little girl, I can tell you my parents very much regretted forcing me to stand."
She would watch the dogs, though she did not run to them yet, just watched to make sure they did not go astray again. She was quite enjoying the conversation with the - admittedly different - Candidate.
"Once I impressed, I was quite glad that they had forced me to stand. I love Ragoth and would feel like something important was missing if I ever lost him." If she ever had the misfortune of her dragon dying with her, she'd probably find another way to join him. "However, I'm still very much a Runner. I may not Run messages anymore, but I like to run everyday."
"I can't promise that if you impress you won't ever regret not following your dream. I don't, but that's because I've found a way to embrace my new life without giving up who I am. If you impress, I would recommend you do the same thing."

"Wow. You are the only person I've met here who didn't want to be a dragon rider before impressing. Its a rarity around here." She smiled, "Blue is a splendid color. No doubt Ragoth is equally so." Harpers were associated with the color blue. In fact, Amneris wore a lot of blue by Weyr standards.
"It must be interesting riding a male dragon. Do people treat you differently?" Curiosity was something that was not easily quelched by the young girl. "Before impressing did you ever think you'd impress a blue or did you think it would be a green or gold if anything?"
She wondered at the thought. She wasn't sure she was mentally grounded enough to ride a blue, they were much more steady headed than greens. "Oh I plan on singing till I die." No dragon or human would change that. "Besides what would a dragon do with a girl like me?" She had convinced herself that a dragon wouldn't want her, so there was no reason to worry about impressing.

She laughed a bit, "Slow down with the questions." Not that she minded really.
"Did I expect to be impressed by a Gold or Green? No." She shook her head, "I didn't expect to Impress at all. I expected to stand on the Sands and then to be sent home. I had planned that look sufficiently forlorn, so that everyone would think that I had hoped to Impress. And I would go back to my life as a runner."
She chuckled, "I didn't even realize the oddity of impressing a Blue at first. I was so amazed at having Impressed. I didn't realize it until Weyrling training started. The others, well, the others made certain assumptions about my sexuality." Assumptions that turned out to be true, the thought of which made her smile to herself. "They called me a 'boy-girl.' Some were rather cruel about it."
"However, most Riders grow up as their dragons do. Once I and my peers became Riders, everything changed. Now, I'm just one of them."
She looked over at the girl and smiled, wondering if she would impress and if she would impress a Green. "You'd be suprised what a dragon would do with you, Amneris. I know I was."

Amneris was shocked. The woman knew exactly how she felt. "Well I'm not really certain of my own sexuality just yet. I'm only fourteen. Does it have that big an impact on what dragon you impress?" In fact Amneris had yet to start her woman's courses. Sure she was old enough but her body continued to shoot up like a weed keeping her very thin. Amneris had no body fat to speak of.
Maybe her not having any idea what she liked would confuse the dragons and then she wouldn't impress and go back to the Harper Hall! The plan was almost brilliant except that her master would probably have her stay at the Weyr till she was too old to impress, if only to keep her away from the other apprentices... the male apprentices. No doubt it would suit him nicely for her to be stuck here forever...
"Its not that I don't like dragons. They are splendid. I just don't see myself lifting firestone sacks... or even attending all those lessons." Sounded soooo boring to her. She would rather not have to do any of it. Amneris could be quite lazy when she wanted.

Jenya could not help but laugh, "And at fourteen there's no reason for you to even be concerned about your sexuality." At the question she shrugged, "Somewhat. I had no real understanding of my own sexual..." She thought for a moment, preferences wasn't really the right word since she enjoyed both genders equally well. "lack of preference until the first time Ragoth flew a Green. To be honest, I'm not sure if my sexuality influenced his choosing me or if he shaped mine after we impressed."
She really had no clue. She knew she'd never really thought about women as potential partners until after the first time it happened. Which probably would not bolster Amneris' faith in her "plan" to confuse the dragons.
She smiled, "You'd be surprised what happens to yourself after you impress. You're still you, but you're more. And all those lessons do not seem quite so bad when you know that they'll get you to the point that you can fly with your dragon. That moment, the first time your dragon lifts off the ground with you on his back, at that moment everything, ever hardship, every boring lesson, everything is all worth it."

"Oh?" Her idea just crashed and burned. Hmm... there were still ways to get sent back to the Harper hall without being a disgrace. All she had to do was refuse to impress. If she shirked her chores she would not have to stand and she never much cared for lessons...
Tipp brought Half Note in to Amneris, herding her as she would any other beast. "Good girl Tipp." She said patting the canine softly. Then taking her leash, hooked Note up. "Such trouble..." She shook her head at Note, who promptly licked her hand. "Silly." Neris giggled.
"Oh, flying does sound like fun. The problem is that one is bound to the Weyr and can't just go wandering through the world..."

She chuckled, "We have fairly decent freedom. Yes, you always have to come home, but you can ask to be assigned to sweep rides. Search missions get to move about pretty freely too. And then there is the occassional time off. Since dragons can go between, you can travel pretty much anywhere pretty quickly."
She smiled to her, "Its not for everyone though. And there is no shame in it if dragon riding is not for you. The important thing is to be yourself."
Jeyna smiled as she watched the girl with her dogs. "Now that your Note has returned to you, you should probably get to your class."
