A'stin held back a chuckle. Oh how lovely it was to talk to someon so young. He was in his thirties now and hardly a young, brash man. The best part of that? He was wiser, stronger and more powerful than he had been at that age. "I, for one, am glad you recovered and are back to normal."
"Only nightmarish if one loses all or wins all." He smiled. The Bronzerider had every reason to. Rodreth had won Saharth before and Lyranth four times. The Bronze had proven himself worthy of Golds and of winning Gold flights. He was not really concerned at having more choices. Perhaps that was his concern at remaining Weyrleader. He knew Jenafa preferred a variety of Bronzeriders, which had never bothered him, nor should it now.
There were moments he wondered why people would think that dragonriders were only out to please themselves. He'd much rather be fighting Thread than worrying about possible uprisings from Hold and Hall. He would rather work out wing strategies than deal with the possibility of civil war. He didn't remark on her words. In fact, A'stin was not all that suprised/ His now grim faced changed to a smile as he looked down at her.
"Jenafa and I know eachother quite well and I always fly our Queens. It is a Bronzerider's duty and I believe you well know, it is our pleasure to please the Golds. Besides what reason would I have not to give chase?"

Breena gave a half smile at his words. She was unsure if it was genuine or just something one said out of politeness. It still seemed odd to her he didn’t know her from eve and yet here they were. It was almost the way she felt around Jenafa, though she minded her temper around the woman better than she had A’stin.
She laughed fully, at his response. “I suppose keeping more than one queen happy at a time poses a challenge.” There was mischief in those tawny eyes that flashed like liquid gold. “It seems though that more bronzes will be coming with queens as well though.” She thought of her cousin as she spoke, she was proud of his accomplishment. Perhaps jealous even. . . She gave a sincere smile.
“No reason I would imagine, unless you no longer desired to lead the weyr. Which, It does not seem that you do, to be honest and forthright.”

He hoped that he wasn't encouraging bad behavior in Breena by letting her be so outspoken with him. Not all Bonzeriders at the Weyr were like that. Many of them thought a woman's place was having babies, cooking and cleaning...etc. He doubted those men cared very much about a woman's opinion. It almost made him wish that not too many men like that rode dragons. He knew of a couple that were outspoken about that topic and they made him uncomfortable. Well at least she knew he was not going to take what she said and use it against her. It was good to listen to people who were regularly working around the Weyr. Dragonriders were meant to protect the people that worked within the Weyr as well as those that worked in Holds and Halls.
"I know this from experience..." He laughed, knowing the rumors that he and Jenafa had been more than flirtatious while he was Shaye's Weyrmate. He had a reputation as it was. That only seemed to make him more interesting to the women here. Not that he minded. "More Bronzes, more of a challenge, better flights, better hatchings and in the end a better Weyr. I see nothing wrong with that. " Even if he didn't win Goldflights, he would be happy for the Weyr. He was a Wingleader and while he didn't like thinking of being second rate, he could still consider himself one of the top Bronzeriders in the Weyr.
"I confess I do love being Weyrleader. I've always wanted the position, since impressing Rodreth. He and I have achieved every goal we've set for ourselves, well almost anyway. We never could plan on something like that happening to Lyranth. We had been hoping to provide stability of Leadership so that something may actually get accomplished but that may have been taken from us...." A'stin was honest at the very least. Still it didn't do to dwell on such topics when going to dinner with a beautiful young woman like Breena.
He felt an almost cocky smile creep onto his face. Well he couldn't help it if he was a vain and rather arrogant person, it was too late to help it. A'stin wondered if she felt at all vain for going to dine with him. Well she ought to...but maybe she wasn't a fan of men in power. "I'll tell Rodreth to give Saharth a run for her money, hopefully we'll have another successful flight and perhaps a Gold Egg. There are records of Golds coming in clusters, right before Thread... I just wonder if it could be possible, what with Telgar having a Gold not even two Turns ago, our newly hatched Queen Elfreth and then Ista's three turn old Ambrieth." He was starting to talk quickly as if stumbling upon something that was exciting and valuable. He was a quick mind but he wasn't using it all the time and lately his self pity had gotten in the way of him seeing the things he ought to be.
"Sorry, I've been sort of wherry brained of late. I hope dining with you won't make too many men jealous of me. From what I've seen of you so far, you are a heart breaker and rather vicious with a scrub brush. "

Breena would be the first to admit A’stin was not exactly what she had expected in a bronze rider, but he had Many points in his favor and she would remember to note that to Jenafa when she did her report. She hadn’t ever really met another rider besides D’wyr and Jenafa who actually listened to what she had to say. She enjoyed that feeling immensely.
She nodded, with a smile about the impact of more bronzes, and inadvertently the death of Shaye and Lyranth. “You still have a chance to provide that Stability though,” she points out. “True Jenafa is now the senior gold rider, but she’s not one for destroying the weyr. Granted it will be much harder with the loss but.” She glances away for a moment. “Igen will survive it. Our leaders aren’t Wherry brained at least.”
She is somewhat surprised by the comment about the golds and it seems as though the man is breaking through something that has been holding him down. She returns his smile, though A’stin was older he didn’t show his years badly, it seemed his smile was younger when he worked through his grief. She laughs brightly, “I will try not to contract any plagues then, I’d hate to miss another hatching.” That bright grin flashes.
She is slightly taken aback by his next comment however and gives him an incredulous raise of her brow. “ A heart breaker? I will admit to the bit with the scrub brush but then almost the entire Weyr knows to run the other way when I get my brush and buckets out.” she laughs tucking a lose curl behind her ear. “As for a heart breaker I think you are more likely to fit that category than myself.” She grins.
