Karl slipped into the lower caverns. He looked around to see what all was going on. He hoped he could find out where he was going to stay soon. Carrying all his stuff, not that there was much, got tiring.
He quietly hummed to himself as he headed toward the headwoman's office. He wasn't sure if she was in. Even if she wasn't, he was tempted to put his stuff in storage there till he found a more permanent place to put it. It probably would speed up the process.

Yashma was getting older, but her ear for gossip had only improved. Hence, she knew the Harper was coming, had heard reports from the Runnerlad who'd given a time of arrival, and she could here the murmuring increase from the open door in her office.
A newcomer had arrived, and it wasn't a candidate. She glanced down at her self, and checked her braid, coming up satified with the loose blue dress, and her tight hairstyle. A journeyman Harper was nothing to be scoffed at, no matter how old she was getting. And considering how large her family was, and the way the Weyr was, who knew what would happen with his boy.

Karl sighted the doorway to the Headwoman's office and grinned to himself. It would be interesting to see if she was as organised as his mother had been. Time to take the plunge. He walked over and steped into the doorway. "Excuse me. Hope I am not interupting. Journeyman Harper Karl at your service. Was sent to help out around here to the best of my abilities. "
He looked the headwoman over and did the same with her office. All looked in order. He wondered how quick he might get stuck with keeping records. Probably somewhere along the lines given his training in the archives.

(I had written up a beautiful post, and posted it, but it got erased. I'm sorry if this isn't as good.)
Yashma smiled in greeting, and beckoned the young man towards one of the chairs in front of her desk, which was as tidy as it ever was. She liked it to at least appear neat, but much like her hair, it started out neat in the morning, and by the noon it was scattered and all organization had gone out of the room. Thankfully, it was still early enough that both she and room appeared together.
"Welcome Karl, I am Yashma, the Headwoman. I will need to ask you some questions, of course, but make yourself comfortable, and do not be afraid to tell me if you do not know." Her words were brisk, and clear.
"Are you to be helping out in the crèche, or do your skills lie in a different direction?" Yashma's hands found a scrap of hide, and took notes about whatever Karl had to tell her. It would be easier to deal with settling him in with this.
"As you are to be staying us for a while, possibly turns, please do not hesitate to ask me whenever you need something. Do you currently require anything? We'll be setting you up in a room, and are happy to give you the furnishings you need. We also have clothing if you need that, and would be happy to find anything else you wish, within reason."
"Any questions?"

Karl sets his stuff down in an open spot just inside the door. He sits down in the chair. "Not too sure that I could help in the creche that well. My specialty is in the area of archival work and compostion."
He shrugs. "All I realy need is a bed and somewhere to keep my stuff. The runner that I rode here is mine and I will deal with keeping him managed if no one minds. I am trained in dealing with runner beasts."
Karl looks around the room and smiles slightly. "Let me know if you could use any help. I know some about running a small hold from my mother. Helped out at the Hall and willing to do so here if you need it."

"Archival work?" She supposed she was too interested in the Harper, but Yashma didn't really mind. A brother and a nephew of hers were Harpers, but she rarely saw them. Besides, how often did you get a Harper who was training in archival work.
"I suppose I'll need to speak to the Weyrwomen then. They do most of our Archival work, but I'm sure they could use a hand. Me as well. I have some records that need to be transcribed."
Yashma nodded. "And I can have a room for you within the hour. I'll need, mmm," Yashma checked a list. "Rory to check the room for any problems. He can show you the way. Stay seated." She added, then stood, moving with brisk efficiency to the man waiting by her door. A member of the Weyr Guard, he often ran her errands. She requested he find her Rory, and sent him on his way.
"Now, you must have questions. You are a Harper for Faranath's sake. Ask them." Yashma commanded, showing exactly why she was a Headwoman, and not just another worker. "Even if it's crass."

Karl grins at Yashma. "Actualy, I dont realy have any right now besides where I can put my stuff." He then tilts his head to the side. "Actualy, there is one question. What is the ...rules in regards to geting to know the 'help' around here? I have had to deal with people who objected to people getting to be friends with the drudges and the like." He says the last part with an edge of iritation beyond just genearl dislike of said people.

Yashma shrugged. "If I find you harassing my help, you'll be dealt with harshly. Who you choose to associate in your free time is your own concern, however. Well, with the obvious exception of Weyrlings. Don't bother them, unless you have a good reason. They have a lot on there plate, and it's better to give them space."
"Once Rory arrives, he'll take you to your room. Speaking of rooms, do you know where the Hall is? I'd hate for you to get lost." Yashma was enjoying her little break from working. And it was much easier than meetings with the Weyrwomen.

The drudge had just finished fixing one of the long tables in the Weyrhall when he was approached by a rather handsome Weyrgaurd. He was then summoned to the Headwoman's Office. Rory wasn't one to argue with his superiors and tried to be more respectful than one would expect. It took only a few moments to get from where he was in the Weyrhall to the Headwoman's Office.
He entered and bowing his head to the Headwoman said, "Good day to you Headwoman Yashma. How may I be of service?" He noted the other person in the room but had yet to meet him, so he could say nothing in greeting. No doubt the Headwoman would introduce them. The man appeared to have been travelling, judging by his clothes and worn out appearance.
Rory hoped he wasn't in any kind of trouble. If it was that blue rider complaining about his chair well that had nothing to do with Rory's work. After all, he had told him to stop using the chair to throw at people. Whatever it was he was beginning to think it had something to do with this other man.

"Ah, Rory." The Headwoman's eyes alighted on the Drudge. "Good, you've arrived. This is Karl, our newest Harper. He'll be taking one of the rooms I recently had aired out. If you could take him there, double check the room for problems, that would be very nice."
She smiled, though she did not ask Rory to share anything. The older woman was not dumb, and Yashma knew that he sometimes got into trouble, especially with riders. Not that she wanted to discuss that right then. And when it did come to discussing it(if it escalated), she'd want one of potential replacements to speak to him. It'd be a good way of auditioning.
"Karl, this is Rory. He's very good at fixing things, so I'd approach him if you need anything.

Karl noded to Rory. "Nice to meet you. I will keep you in mind if I need anything to be repaired." He turned to Yashma. "No problem. Understand the restrictions." He shruged. "Had to deal with people who thought they should be able to tell me who I could socialise with on my own time. Something about not being of proper rank and the like."
He walked over to where he had put his stuff down and picked it up. "If there is nothing else, I'll follow Rory and get settled in."

Rory was pleased that he was not in fact, in trouble. The younger man seemed perfectly capable of finding his way though perhaps it could get a bit tricky. Being Weyrbred often made one overlook that fact. He wondered if Yashma had sent for him for a particular reason... Pushing the thought aside he smiled warmly at the newcomer.
"Well met, Journeyman Karl. Here let me help carry something." He took one of the bags and proceeded towards the door. He knew when he was being dismissed. "A Harper is always a welcome addition around here. Too bad you missed the last Hatching, it'll be another Turn till theres a great feast like that to perform at. Though there are rumors that Telgar Hold may be having a Gather. Mind you, thats idle gossip."
Rory had always been an outgoing and likeable sort of person. He had absolutely no trouble toalking to anyone. The harper probably didn't realize he had met one of the more upbeat people around. Stepping through the doorway and out into the hall, he explaind that all hallways would eventually lead to the main entrance of the Lower Caverns. "The rooms aren't that far, so it should be a fairly straight path to the rest of the Weyr."

Karl smiled as he followed Rory. It looked like things might not be to bad. "Places are always easy to get around when you are use to them. But I'm sure I will learn my way around quick enough. Oh, do have a question for you. One that I doudt the headwoman would have necessarily known the answer to." He shruged. "From your level of seeing things around here, anyone I should be aware of to be carefull around?"
Karl had found that often the help knew more about the problem people than those in charge. He then let out a quiet sigh. The memories were still painfull. But at least he wasn't back at the Hall. He didn't think he would want to be around that many reminders of what they had had, for the time they had.

Rory was caught a bit off gaurd by the question. There were people he did not get along with but no one the Harper need fear. "Oh, I don't think there is anyone you need worry about. Most people here love Harpers and the Weyrleaders are all very easy to speak with. I would steer clear of some of the riders, though you'll be able to tell which ones are bossy just from the way they walk around."
The drudge answered to the best of his own knowledge. Rory had been in his share of fights with riders. Most of the time it wasn't anything to be concerned with. Once it was to save his sister and once it was with his ex, N'zule.
"Here we are." Rory commented when they reached the door. He took out the key and unlocked it. "It should be clean but I can do a walk through with you if you want. That way if it isn't satisfactory we can move you to a different one." This was much like his old quarters, before he had Nishor.
"You'll find theres just enough room for one person so if you find yourself a wife or have any children, we can move you." Rory didn't know the other man's sexual tastes so he made a rather quick judgement. The man was a crafter and everyone knew they viewed homosexuality as a bad thing.

Karl shrugs and looked around the room. "Looks ok to me. I'm use to cleaning up after myself. Don't expect to need more room anytime soon." Karl looks away for a moment as he deals with memories, not that he wanted to forget them, but they were still painful. He shakes his head to clear it. "Sorry, lost someone close recently. One of the reasons the masters thought I needed to get away from the Hall. Too many things to remind me of him." Karl didn't seem to notice or care that he might have said too much, depending on the audience.
He went into the room and tossed his stuff down in appropriate places, planning to unpack most of the stuff later. The only thing he was carefull with was his traveling harp. He did take out what looked to be a carefully wrapped picture. He unwrapped it and placed in on a convenient surface where it wasn't visible from the doorway. The picture was of him and another guy about Karl's age, each wearing only shorts and a vest, each with an arm on the other's shoulders.
Karl looked over at Rory. Not too bad looking. He just was not in the mood to get into a relationship right now. It was too soon. "I can unpack as needed. I assume food is down in the main cavern? All I had on the ride here was meat rolls.
