Amneris at times, had trouble making it to class, when she was supposed to. This morning was not an exception as a result she was sent to do Watch duty. All the while, she wondered who she would be shadowing. People placed on Watch Duty either were there because it was their turn in the rotation or because they were in trouble with the Wingleaders or Weyrleader.
Labeth took off for the star stones, hoping this would be more fun, than boring. They decided not to Between there because that would be a lazy thing to do and this was more scenic. They rose above the Weyr, so much so that the people looked tiny and even dragons seemed to be moving figurines. Labeth landed on the stones waiting for the real Watch dragon to show up.
"At least its a great view huh?" Amneris said to Labeth who agreed but was still annoyed that her rider had gotten them into this mess. "It'll be fine, you'll see." I could have been sunning. You need to shadow Watch dragons anyway. Might as well take this as a learning experience.

Jeyna tended to prefer searchriding, but she took her turns on Watch Duty with no complaint. While it might hamper her evening activities, her turn did not come up often enough for it to be a problem. Besides, most evenings she spent less time on the prowl, and more evenings entertaining a wonderful young Green Rider. Whine the Blue Rider would deny that she was in a relationship with Amneris, a good 80-90 percent of her bedroom activities involved the younger woman. And her usual favorites were dwindling significantly.
She stretched before she climbed onto Ragoth, having had a good nap before coming up to watch. "Ragoth, if Labeth asks for us, let her know where we are and that we'd be glad to spend tomorrow evening with the both of them."
Indeed. Of course I will, Mine.
Ragoth had been slightly possessive of the Green ever since he caught her. Of course with the way Dragon memories worked, Jeyna realized that if he was not cuddling with the Green so often he'd probably forget and let it go, but the blue did quite enjoy the presence of the young, though now adult, Green.
As they drew closer Jeyna grinned, "Do you see what I see?"
I do. You have to stay attentive during watch duty, Mine. No flying Labeth's tonight.
Doesn't mean we can't cuddle. Besides, she's still a weyrling. Chances are this is punishment. She grinned, Though I hope she winds up seeing it as a reward.
The two landed and Jeyna dismounted gracefully and quickly. "So for what 'crime' are you being..." she waggled an eyebrow, "punished this evening, dearest?"

Labeth was not looking when the blue flew towards them, neither was Amneris really. The two of them were oblivious to all around them when arguing like they were now. Although it wasn't a heated one, the disagreement often led to one of them giving in sooner or later. Luckily Labeth wasn't testy today and Amneris, despite being punished was in a good mood.
I'm sorry. I'll try not to get us punished... Her thought was cut off midsentance by her favorite person.
"Jeyna!" She flashed a smile over at the bluerider. The way Jeyna had worded that sentance made her blush slightly. "I was late to class. I doubt the Weyrlingmaster would call this a fair punishment..." Amneris said with a wink. Labeth too was glad to see Ragoth. The dragons were close, though not as close as their riders.
"I doubt you thought we'd be here tonight. We're shadowing as punishment and because I think that M'ren has lost ideas on how to punish us for losing track of the time." Labeth would say that she had no trouble with time, it was her rider who did. Still if Amneris was good at keeping track of time she would be missing out on other things. Her way was better, she thought.

"Mmm... and I'm pretty sure it wasn't me causing you to be late this morning." She grinned and moved over to the other woman, wrapping her arms around her. "No, not a fair punishment, except in that cuddling is our only choice tonight. Ragoth made sure to remind me that we have to remain attentive tonight."
Ragoth's eyes whirred as he looked to the Green. But we are free to nap while they watch... Might I lie beside you, Labeth?
Jeyna turned to glare at her Blue momentarily, "Don't rub it in."
She then turned her attention back to Amneris, "And no, I did not expect this pleasant surprise. I'd told Ragoth to let you know, if you were to ask that we'd be glad to spend tomorrow evening in your company." The older woman gently kissed her younger (and youngest truth be told) lover, being careful to keep it relatively chaste so as not to fire either of them up.

Amneris was actaully looking forward to this evening now, rather than simply thinking she'd be standing there all night watching nothing happen. Jeyna was right, they had to behave tonight. Watch duty was not to be taken too lightly.
"I could have gotten out of bed sooner... I suppose..." Amneris said with a smile, though she was sure that she would never have chosen differently than she had. Like a dragonet impression, they did not doubt whom they chose just as Neris never doubted her own decisions. Never might be a strong word, hardly ever, might be better. "I'm sure we can remain attentive and cuddle."
Labeth lifted her head, vainly. You may. Good thing you were on duty tonight or I should have had to talk to another dragon all night. Her rider wouldn't have minded, but Labeth had grown rather attached to the dragons she did know, especially Ragoth.
Amneris felt the older woman's kiss and responded gently but just as Jeyna had said, they needed to pay attention and not get completely wrapped up in eachother. The tall youth sat down slowly. If anything interesting were to happen tonight, they would be ready for it. The sun was still setting so Amneris took this chance to watch and admire the beauty of the evening sky.

Jeyna grinned, reluctantly letting the other slip out of her arms to sit, though she gladly sat beside her, pulling her close to hold her as they watched the sunset. She turned her head for a moment to breath in the other woman's scent.
"Did you bring something warm to put on? It can get pretty cool up here in the evenings." Of course, if she didn't, Jeyna would be glad to provide body warmth.
Ragoth moved to beside the Green, nipping at her affectionately, though careful to not hurt her. Lovely one, I would hate for you to have to be bored with some other dragon. He draped his wing over her lovely green hide.

The green was comforted by Ragoth's words and laid her head down ontop of her forelegs. As am I. Labeth was quick to fall asleep. She knew to take her rest when she had time to rest. Amneris rarely slept through an entire night so Watch Duty would not be hard for her either. When Jeyna mentioned warmer clothes she shook her head. "I didn't think to bring anything." One of those things people learned as they went along, she supposed. Amneris often felt a bit innocent to the ways of the Weyr around Jeyna. She always seemed to know everything. It was a good thing the woman was the patient sort. (( later...just before dawn )) They had been up all night, though Amneris didn't feel at all tired. She had heard the stories in Weyrling class about the red star in the star stones, just at dawn. "Jeyna, how would one look through the stones to bracket the red star? I mean it all seems like a myth, wouldn't one notice it's approach anyway?"

Jeyna had brought a blanket, and draped it over the two of them when she first noticed the cold, though she provided most of the heat by moving the other woman into her lap, and holding her close. She had quite enjoyed the night, though she hoped to get some time without limits with the other woman later.
"Mmm... It hasn't been seen in so long, that I'm not entirely sure why its not noticeable without the stones. Perhaps it just looks like any other bright star?" That was a good question, and one that the blue rider had never really thought to ask. She believed in the return of Thread, and just faithfully trained and waited for it. She kissed the other woman softly on the neck.
"Well, its time to check, so why don't we see what we can see?" She hugged Amneris tightly for a moment before letting go for the other to get up.

Jeyna's warmth had kept her toasty throughout the evening. Now that dawn was upon them she knew that the coldest part of the day was as well. Amneris was always curious. Unfortunately she didn't take into consideration that everyone else might not know the answers to her questions, not because her questions were stupid but because they weren't what normal people thought about.
"Perhaps we forgot what it looks like." She agreed. Amneris was excited about this. Eventhough the star wouldn't be there, she had wanted to look through the star stones since she heard the story of how to spot the star. It would be fun at any rate. She returned Jeyna's hug and released her as she stood.
"Alright. Does the Watch Dragon always check or do you think some people just don't because they believe thread isn't coming back?" Amneris would be mad if she were Weyrwoman and no one ever checked. Until one day threads just started falling...no warning.

Jeyna wrinkled her nose, "Probably. I always check when its my turn in the rotation. But I would not be entirely surprised if there were those who didn't." She sighed, "I'm sure that there are other weyrs which do not check faithfully." She shook her head, "But, I can really only be responsible for me, you know?"
She grinned and lead the other woman over to the stones. "I'll show you, and then you can look too. Its really not that hard. I think they made these stones dummy proof." She bent down to look through the stones, making sure to line them up just right in how she looked and then she gasped.
"By the shell... 'Neris..." She stood up, "Its there... the red star. Its there!" She gestured for the other to look.
Ragoth stirred hearing the excitement in his rider's voice and feeling it in her mind, Mine? Did you say what I think you said?
Jeyna nodded, Yes! Let Adeloth know... the Red Star has appeared...

Amneris figured as much, after how many hundreds of Turns? It was to be expected really. It only made people doubt more, knowing that it had been over four hundred turns since the last pass, and two hundred longer than it should have taken. How the Weyrs had survived this long was a mystery in itself. Maybe deep down everyone knew that the Red Star would be back?
She followed Jeyna who showed her how to look through. "Wait... What??!!" Amneris ran over to Jeyna and looked through herself. "It can't be, can it?" She was beginning to feel a knot twist in her stomach. Sure she could stand in front of hundreds of people and sing but risk her life for them? Oh no. She was not cut out for all this. Thread coming meant she was actually going to have to fight. Faranth save her.
Labeth was unconcerned by the whole thing. Thread was always going to come, it was what she was bred for. Besides, it would give them something to do that would require her rider to be on time, for once.
"Jeyna this means, we're going to fly Thread..." Amneris felt her face grow pale as she spoke. She wanted to believe everything would be fine but yet again, her world was shaking and everything was about to change.

Adeloth, Unferth, the Red Star has appeared at Dawn. Mine saw it in the star stones. Jeyna heard her blue inform the weyrleaders of the news and then turned her attention to Amneris. She knew that there was a chance that the weyrleaders might join them to see this for themselves.
She gently but forcefully pulled the young woman to herself, kissing her softly. "Shh, dear one. It'll be fine. You and Labeth are brilliant flyers. You've been trained well. Yes, I know that accidents happen." And the idea of Amneris and Labeth being among those accidents, sent a stomach into Jeyna's own stomach, though she tried to ignore it for the moment. "But we can minimize those by being careful and following orders. You, my dear, will be fine." You have to be.
"Besides, it will be a bit before the red star being in the sky means thread is upon us. There is still time to train and perfect our skills."

While Jeyna reassured her, Amneris knew that accidents could happen. Perhaps it was better not to think about it. Then they could face something like that if it happened, knowing that they spent every moment like they were never going to die. Amneris would prefer that. The thought of Thread was also a little exciting.
Protectors of Pern again! Amneris had always hoped that would happen. Not any time soon but it seemed she had no choice in the matter. The Weyrleaders would probably find this interesting, though she wondered if they were prepared for such tidings. Why were things like this always happening to her and Jeyna?
The tall blonde nodded. "Of course. Labeth and Ragoth are excellent flyers too." She added in reassurance to herself. "Are we going to brief Elisha and W'lam on this or will they want to come here?"
Then she walked over to her green, who had been awake but silent for the last while. Now we will see how wonderful it is to do our job.... Not the adjective I would have used but then again to you it may seem that way.
