A New Clutch « Thread Started on Oct 18, 2009, 11:13am »
(Due to the extended absence of Sheluth's writer, I went ahead and started a clutching thread, no one need reply but this is a two week notice before they will be hatching in real time. so get your Candidates rping )
The sands had been empty for many months when Sheluth stepped out onto them. She was ready even if Neory was a little unaware of what was going on. The Gold had taken her completely by suprise that morning when she mentioned going to the sands.
The day was cool and crisp, perfect for Sheluth not to overheat. As usual she was in fine health and color. It was a pity that Torenth could not be here to witness his clutch being laid. Without him around to deter people from coming in and out the other Bronzes had made it their own mission to gaurd the young Queen while she was busy.
About two candlemarks into it, things were still running smoothly. The first clutch of Sheluth's already yielded seven eggs and more were coming. If her mother was any indication, Sheluth may clutch more eggs than the average Gold on Pern. As the candlemarks passed the Gold continued to be quite at ease. She was having no difficulty whatsoever and as usual had saved the best for last.
Sheluth laid a Gold egg and it was no wonder that people began to show up around the Hatching Sands, hoping to get a glimpse of the Egg and its clutchmates. Total including the Gold, Sheluth laid fifteen eggs which was not bad for a first clutch.

Neory had stayed with Sheluth through the whole process. Every Gold Rider did when their Queen clutched, not out of duty but out of love and adoration. Even as she comforted and supported the Gold, she had to force herself to focus, to ignore what was missing. Sheluth's support should have been her rider and her mate and his rider. Instead, the other pair were gone in time. Neory had not seen R'net since the Flight, yet she knew she considered it a mistake.
Perhaps that was part of what tinted her laughter when the gold egg emerged. She had chosen wisely and correctly, and this magnificent first clutch proved as much. And all thoughts of R'net were shoved out of her mind as Neory focused on the perfection of her dragon.
Neory was unaware of their audience, though she had a passing knowledge that the Bronzes stood watch, as she crooned to and petted and encouraged Sheluth through the process.
The day was a long one, and when it was done Neory chose not to leave Sheluth with her eggs alone, and Sheluth did not mind her Rider being near the eggs she had gently gathered and now guarded as a brooding Gold. Neory leaned against the drago and smiled, "You did beautifully, love. You're perfect and your children will me wonderful."
I know. Sheluth's voice was tired but proud, and she turned her whirring eyes to look at her rider. We both need to sleep now.
