Character Info:

Name: J’var (Janivar)

Age: 21, born winter of 1034

Gender: male

Rank: Wingrider

Location: Igen Weyr

Family:
Father -- L’var (41) bronzerider at Igen -- For turns he struggled to get his father’s favor. He just wanted to be noticed in his father’s ever growing brood. Now he sees that if his father hasn’t manned up to like him now, he never will. He thinks that his father fancies his young little weyrmate too much as to cause distraction.
Mother -- Janesa (38) Headwoman at Igen -- She is his only advisor. He eats up her words like pudding at Christmas. He respects her greatly, though he wonders sometimes why he needs her when he is succeeding quickly now. His loyalties belong to her, amongst the queens and Igen as a whole.

Sisters:
Janirsa, 20 – Candidate for Igen, clever, ruthless, almost. She is definitely a bright one, too clever to be a simple drudge. She is capable of being more cruel than J’var. She has nerves of steel, that one. Secretly J’var hopes she doesn’t Impress a queen since he wants to fly one, and you don’t fly your sister.
Larissa, 19 – sweeter, kinder, beautiful and blonde. He used to be closer to this sister, but since his mother hand picked him to apprentice so to speak, he has grown apart. Impressing hasn’t helped since he had been so busy with Weyrling work

Half-Siblings (all from father dearest)
--Mavara (22) Candidate for Igen, by Maytra – He doesn’t think much of her. He knows she’ll most likely be left standing if there ever is a queen egg. Her mother was a tramp with lots of children by all sorts of different men.
--L’por (21) brownrider, by Wepari – His biggest and unspoken rival. Since they both Impressed, he sees it as he won, since he Impressed Bronze and L’por got brown. Not that it matters much since the two who made it a rivalry were their mothers, and neither are now with L’var.
--Varneki (16) female weyrbrat, by Islaneki – Chattery twit.
--Vareno (12) male weyrvrat, by Renoa – Too feminine for a boy.
--Zervar (10) male weyrbrat, by Zeritha – His honorific is too much like his own name for comfort.
--Vanizer (8) male weyrbrat, by Zeritha – Needy, whiney little kid.
--Zavartho (7) male weybrat, by Zeritha – Too young to care.
--Laritha (5) female weyrbrat, by Zeritha – A girl.
--Thalivar (0) male weyrbrat, by Zeritha - Just another thorn.

Cousins worth mentioning:
--L’sander (23) a bronzerider at Telgar – He’s personally never met the boy, though he sort of sees it as a competition of who can rise in the ranks fastest. He knows his father keeps a bit of a correspondence, and can keep tabs on his cousin.
--Meline (19) a queen candidate at Benden – He’s met her a few times as children when Uncle Zak brought her to visit. He’s curious to see how she’ll Impress, if at all.
--N’brat (18) a brownrider at Igen – He sees N’brat as lesser, but he’s good enough to hang out in J’var’s crowd. N’brat has loyalty, and J’var is glad to have his, ‘cause his cousin packs a punch.
--Butron (14) Igen candidate -- Recently brought in to be a candidate from the trading wagons, J’var looks out for him. The stocky boy has potential, and J’var has been warned multiple times from his mother that blood is thicker than water.

Appearance: At first glance you’d swear his eyes were brown, but upon further review, you’d conclude that they are a dark blue-gray color. Also, by looking closer you might notice one of his eyes is just slightly off. His eyes are neither narrow nor wide. He has inherited from his father, light brown hair, although from his mother, he got the natural curly wave. Most of the time he has a tossuled, He always keeps it short, and he is always clean shaven. He has a crease in his chin that he got from his father’s side. He feels it gives him definition and character. He also has a more angular than soft features with higher cheek bones and pronounced jawline.

J’var is not a big guy, rather thin and defined rather than muscularly bulky. He stands only 5’10, so he’s not towering, either, but he’s taller than most of the women, so it’s all good. He has broad shoulders and a man’s frame, he is just not a body builder. As he was in puberty, he was kind of awkward and lanky, though now in manhood, he feels like he’s grown out of it quite well. He is rather proud of his arm and pec definition. His Adam’s apple is visible, though it’s not awkward, in fact, many say it give him strong masculine definition. J’var got his distinguished style from his mother, who always insisted he dress to impress. J’var likes his clothes in impeccable order, and is quite obsessive compulsive about his wardrobe. He likes fine colors, though never mixes and matches. He prefers more subdued colors, but likes it when women wear the brighter, flauntier colors. He likes bright colors for accents. He wears boots folded at half calf in brown leather. He likes to wear leathers over cottony materials or silks.

Personality: Ambitious: J’var is eager to gain rank and please his mother as well as do well for himself. He’d do anything to get farther up the social ladder, perhaps just short of murder. And then again, for all his honor, he was much more likely to commission some one else to do his dirty work. His greatest dream is to be Weyrleader, though like his mother often reminds him, that would take time. His first desire is to further himself and make a good name for himself.

Persistent: J’var never gives up at something he wants. Once he sets his mind on something, there is no stopping him. And once he sets his heart on something, watch out! He’s eager to just skip the pleasantries and the games and just get things done, though slowly his mother’s logic is sinking in. And as long as he kept trying at something, he was bound to succeed some time.

Charismatic: J’var is very capable of being poetic and articulate when he wants something. He is very imaginative, and can weave words decently. His flattery many times is over the top and used on love struck girls. He is learning to use this skill for speeches and persuasion, more mature uses than just getting a girl to his room.

Obedient: J’var is very obedient to orders, and isn’t one to talk back to superiors. He follows his mother’s advice, and does as she tells him-it’s for his own good, right? Perhaps this might make him seem dumb, but it is appealing to those in power.

Charming: J’var has learned never to bite the hand that feeds him, and is quite the charming and mannerly young man. You’d think he was the son of a nobleman with is eloquence, but he has just learned the art of flattery from his mother. J’var is actually poetic and sweet when he feels it will get him somewhere. He is never brash, but rather thoughtful and suave with most people deserving of it. Beware those who rank below him, you might never see this side of J’var.

Weakness:
Patience: He is still young and one lesson he has not learned is that of patience. He wants to everything NOW so he can succeed sooner, despite his mother’s repeated warnings to be patient. Of course his desire to succeed calms his edginess and impatience, though not with out complaint.

History: Janivar was born on a winter evening, but in Igen, even winter is warm. Janesa felt that her son would cement her place with L’var, because Janivar was his only son born out of love, not just lust. Of course, Janesa had started to court L’var for the power, the security, but she found herself tumbling in emotion. She became a fool of love, and devoted herself to making L’var happy. She was of course, aware of his past with other women. Just months before her own son, another was born from a one night stand he had with a drudge. Well, she had loved L’var, so in that, her boy was better, thus a rivalry began. Janirsa was born less than a turn later, and Janesa thought all was well. They were official weyrmates for nearly two turns since she became pregnant with Janivar. Yet, after Janirsa was born, she had heard from other women that L’var was visiting other beds. Many sleepless nights occupied Janivar’s mother, and Janesa, in the only way she knew, tried to save her relationship by giving L’var yet another daughter, and sacrificing her own chance to become a queenrider. With the birth of Larissa, Janesa wasn’t in the health to stand, and it would be her only opportunity.

Unfortunately, all her efforts were in vain. More nights she spent alone, she had given up so much to be with him, and he left her to share another woman’s warmth. It wasn’t long before the cold nights hardened her against him, and she lost faith in love. Janesa left L’var’s weyr and took her children back to raise herself. Never again would she let a man dictate her heart, not unless he proved himself in some great way. So after two, nearly three, turns in the crèche, Janivar was in his mother’s care. She didn’t believe love was worth it, in fact, she tried to teach her children to go for power first. Perhaps then they’d never hurt as she did. At first it was a struggle for Janesa to get her feet sturdy on the ground and start providing for her children, but she made sure they made the best of things, and she never wanted her children to be in want of anything again. Thus she started to teach them all the ways she knew how to get ahead in life. Janivar and Janirsa were apt students, though Larissa was disinterested, seeming content with the world and status, not really understanding what was wrong with being just like the next guy. So Janesa focused on her more ambitious children. Janivar was close to both of his sisters, they were his best friends growing up, though when he was getting closer to Impression age, Janesa sort of separated him from the other two so that he would not hesitate at opportunity when it came. Finally he remembers his mother became Headwoman, and then they started to have not just their needs, but their wants as well. He was a candidate at the age of 14 and stood for Saharth’s second, and third, and fourth, and fifth, before Impressing his bronze in her 6th clutch.

Janivar became J’var, and his mother cooed over him more than ever. Now her son was permanently her favorite. Unless of course Janirsa managed to Impress gold, which was unlikely since queens were known to be very rare. For a while he was too busy for his family, and did not spend much spare time with them. J’var was the star of his class, riding the only bronze in his class, and one of the only shelled in the last few turns. J’var enjoyed the attention, in fact he lavished in it. He desired more of it, and therefore returned to the woman whom he thought had the most knowledge of climbing the social ladder: Janesa. She was happy to have her golden boy back, and quickly he fell into her control and did as she bid him.

Still, J’var had always wanted to please his father, to be his father’s favorite, but his father paid him little heed other than a pat on the back at Impression. For all his years competing against his half brother L’por, and finally beating him by Impression, it came to nothing because his father was too preoccupied with his Wing and the opposite sex. Janesa had hoped even though she loathed L’var, that he would bestow some favor upon her children. Not too much, mostly just gifts and favors, because he thought him to be a poison to her work. It broke her heart to see J’var working so hard for something from his old man. And then to see him pay special attentions to Larissa made her mad. She didn’t really want him spending time with her children because she knew he’d never stick around and only end up hurting them.

Graduating weyrlinghood and being accepted into the Namib Wing was his proudest moment. He was finally a man, a full dragonrider with tons of potential. Currently he’s just a wingrider, but he dreams of bigger and better things, and often casually tries to talk to the Wingleader and the WingSeconds. Of course, being the Headwoman’s son is no bad thing either. No one wants to be on that old hag’s bad side. Iodinth had never flown a queen dragon before, and had never tried. He has won two greens, though the first time he woke up with a man, he knew it wasn't him, so the second time, J'var had a female stand in. J’var doesn’t want to sleep with a man again. He dreams of only getting a head so he wishes to fly a queen one day.

He got his dream and flew Saharth, though keeping up with the junior queen was difficult, especially since he has been finding himself more and more in love with Laszreen, the newest goldrider, every day. He has to choose between them, and while his mother is pushing him to Jenafa, his heart is pulling him to Laszreen.

Dragon Info:

Name: Ionuth

Age: 3

Color: Bronze

Appearance: Ionuth is a decent sized dragon of a dark bronze color. There is subtle shading in his hide, nothing really noticeable unless you are close up. Because of J’var’s immaculate care, there are little or no white scars on Ionuth. Mostly if there had been any, they were old ones from flight practices. Ionuth is not the largest bronze in the Weyr, but he is not the smallest, either. He has more length than bulk, really.

Personality: He’s narcissistic, thinking he is a very fine bronze. He knows he is mightier than other dragons, and can be more aggressive of a bronze. Of course he’s kept in check-most of the time- by J’var. He’s very picky when it comes to oiling and bathing, he likes to be in pristine shape. He’s pretty opinionated, and while he can actually be quite rude, he’s rather sweet to the queen dragons. For obvious reasons. Definately a Mr. Haughty. Being the only bronze in his clutch didn't help...

-Ionuth was in training with J’var
-Ionuth has won two greenflights.
-Ionuth has won Saharth
