I do not think I could be hungrier if a fasted for a week. The petite Gold was always hungry but today Laszreen felt her own stomach turning. She had just eaten herself and nearly threw it up because of Elfreth. The morning routine had been thrown off by this ravenous hunger.

Laszreen almost doubled over as they walked toward the Feeding Grounds. Although the Queen could not hunt for herself just yet she was craving fresh meat and Laszreen would do anything, even hunt it herself to get it for her. If she didn't she feared she would try to tear her own stomach open. Who could help them at this hour? The Weyrling was having trouble concentrating and forming an idea which was either going to mean waking someone or hoping there was a dragon willing to hunt for them that was there already.

Elfreth was acting like a hungry child very snappy and short fused. She got angry everytime she stumbled. Poor thing couldn't help her clumsiness. Now that she was six months the time was getting closer to when she could fly and hunt for herself. Laszreen looked forward to that since the Gold demanded the best, not what the other Weyrling dragons received.

As the sun rose over the fields the light Gold's hide gleamed like a well polished mirror. Rays of light that hit her hide were then reflected out. She seemed to shimmer as she walked to the edge of the fields. Dumbstruck, Laszreen could only stare at the beautiful little Gold for a moment. What are you gawking at? I'M HUNGRY!

No, J'var was not stalking Laszreen. Not in the slightest. It was only by mere chance that he was out at sunrise. Really. He didn't have Ionuth watch from his ledge to see the shiney gold wandering to the food pens. It still both irked him and intrigued him that she stood up to him that day when they were candidates, and then again later. Girls never did that. He usually intimidated them with his good looks and rank. Those girls weren't good enough for him, not like Laszreen. Even after he had her, he still wanted her. That feeling, too, never really happened with other girls, except with Jenafa-but that was a different kind of desire all together. He knew it was best for him to stay out of her way, but somehow he denied his better sense and had Ionuth fly him down.

J'var leaped off his bronze with a masculine grace that he had, admittedly, worked on, and used to impress people. He did so now and stood with the brush of an arrogant smile. Oh he wasn't dumb enough to think Laszreen would melt, no that mere fact alone is what made him drawn to her. He knew she'd have some smart alec-y retort or insult, and then he'd insult her back, and they would banter. That's how he and Laszreen ran. And for some reason he always left infatuated with her more, whereas another man might find it infuriating.

"Good morning lovlies," J'var said over-sweetly, trying to see if Laszreen would be easily irked this early in the morning. Then he looked at the pretty young gold and smiled more genuinely and said quite serious, "My duty to you and yours, Laszreen."

Elfreth, you are looking healthy today, Ionuth said to the gold, inclining his great head to be closer to her level.

Laszreen was catching up to the Gold if a little sower than she intended. The pain in her stomach was insane. Elfreth had never been this hungry before. The sooner I eat the sooner it goes away. We better hope there is a dragon here who would hunt for you in the temper you are in. It was no secret that the small Gold was in a bad mood when she was hungry. This would be no different.

The all too familiar voice of an arrogant bronzerider filled the air around them. Maybe she should ignore him but the thought that Ionuth would be there to help them was too much to put aside. "Morning." Laszreen spoke as coridally as she could manage. No pain was written on her body or face. She would have to seem normal. "Thank you. Same to you and Ionuth." Whyever would he be here so early?

She did not want to contemplate the reasons. Any thought of why he was here would lead her down paths she did not wish to go and Elfreth would not understand her changed mental state. It would be better if he would keep his distance like she wanted him to do. How could anyone hide such strong feelings? Laszreen knew she must for the mental health of one of Pern's Queens. She was entrusted with something more important than an infatuation with some dragonrider.

"Would Ionuth be up to hunting this morning? I'm afraid Elfreth woke extremely hungry." The Gold did look a shade off to Laszreen which most people would not notice. After she ate she would feel so much better. The little Gold was appeased by his statement of truth but she could not help but blurt out her thoughts. I would be healthier if I weren't famished. The tone of the light Gold was more like that of an upset child than that of a Queen.
