 Class is now in session.
« Thread Started on Sept 21, 2009, 5:54pm »

L'tor groggily got out of bed, exactly on time as usual. He had fallen asleep after all, but it wasn't nearly enough. He even had time to shave and comb his hair. He put on a handsome tunic of light blue soft linen, and well tailored chocolate brown trousers. He then decided upon a midnight blue jacket that had brass buttons to one side and fell just short of his knees, he left it unbuttoned, fixed the collar and admired the handywork of his sister. She had embroidered this particular piece with goldenrod, umber and deep chocolate brown, giving way to twirling buds of Ivory stitches, all very petit patterns, dainty enough not to be overly feminine. He brushed his brown boots and stamped them on, giving a final brush of his hand to straighten his trousers over the boots.
are you quite done being a greenrider?
Good morning to you too Konath
Another day with the younglings, good morning
Have you hunted my friend?
I'm still full from last evening
That's good.
Have you eaten?
No, I'm about to go grab something
I'll meet you on the ledge of the classroom.
Very well.
L'tor then walked in handsome even strides to the kitchens, grabbed a bowl of hot grains, with some honey and spice in it, a cup of k'lah, a hunk of bread, and some fruit for later. L'tor never seemed to outgrow constantly needing to eat. He then headed to the classroom where he quickly ingested his morning meal, he stowed the bread and fruit in his office, along with the empty bowl. He joined Konath on the ledge with his Klah.
Konath was resplendent in the newly rising sun, his great eyes mere slits, and a smile turning the corners of his snout, he was enjoying the sunrise. L'tor then joined him, leaning against his great bulk. His suede like flesh was soft and warm and glittering pearlescently in the sun. L'tor sipped at his Klah, enjoying the simple pleasure of this beverage, its robust and spicy flavor, the way the flavors weaved in and out, the way it steeled him towards another day, made him feel calm and peaceful. He looked out towards the world in all directions, drinking in the landscape around him. The suns were all aglow, glittering off the desert sands, and letting the hazy colors of the morning echoe off the horizon. L'tor sighed and finished his Klah then went inside to the classroom to await his students. Time to impress weyr etiquette upon them, learn their ranks and duties to the weyr.

Laszreen as always woke up before the sun rose. She had much to do. Elfreth was growing larger and larger by the day and also growing more of an attitude. While the dragon slept, the goldrider moved out of bed. Gently she combed out the few mats the pillow had left on her head. She was the only woman in the barracks so waking up before the others was probably a good thing. Laszreen had placed out what she would wear the night before.

She had a drudge outfit for washing Elfreth in though it would not do for her to where that to breakfast. Her red colored dress was much more suitable. The v neck was flattering on her and the cinch belt at the waist. Admiring the way the skirt came out from her small waist she smiled. Vanity was not looked upon as a good thing, except in her dragon. Apparently everyone thought it normal.

Slipping on some shoes she headed to the Weyrhall. Laszreen was never a big eater and she didn't need to be at 5'3". The petite young woman took with her a red fruit, a piece of bread and some water. Mornings were not the best time for her to fill her tummy as it would grow upset if she ate too much.

After eating, she found Elfreth waking with the sun. The Gold watched her rider approach her through slitted eyes. She knew that her rider had plans for the morning. Good morning Elfreth.Morning? Already? The gold didn't like having to walk to the lake, it was something she dreaded every day. Her clumsiness could be seen on that walk to almost the entire Weyr. "Yes, dear. We need to go get you a bath and oiling. We have lessons today sweeting." Oh! The Gold got herself up and began to slowly follow her rider to the lake. When they were finished, Laszreen entered the classroom. Elfreth, being a small Gold would be able to fit for a couple of months more but she was quickly outgrowing the classroom.

"Good morning Weyrlingmaster L'tor." Laszreen said as she took her place front and center. She was early but she always was. Elfreth and she did set an example for their classmates. The Weyrlingmaster seemed to be relaxed with his brown. Hopefully she had not disturned them.

Nayath was already installed in the classroom. Neither she or her Rider particularly liked being outside waiting for class to start. Nayath didn't like it because she didn't like getting comfortable, only to have to move again, and she wasn't really sure why A'kere didn't like waiting outside of the classroom. But he didn't, so they'd been inside when he'd run off to help Laerth's rider. Which was stupid. He should have stayed with her so that they could be together. They were, after all, happiest together.

And when Elfreth and Hers appeared, Nayath exhaled slowly. Hers still wasn't back, and she didn't want to nag him. He didn't like that! So, shifting so that she could look more presentable, Nayath decided to greet Elfreth, because she was a Green, and Greens could do what they wanted.

Sometimes. Except when their Riders wanted something else. But A'kere was off washing a different Dragon, so, he obviously wouldn't protest.

Good Morning, Elfreth! Nayath chirped.

Elfreth was not really going to concern herself with greeting the Weyrlingmaster or his dragon. Laszreen could do what she wanted but Elfreth would not be the first to say anything. She was a Queen and should be treated accordingly no matter her age. The light gold was always full of herself and as she became older it became worse.

When the green from her clutch contacted her, she turned her head to look and see Nayath. Greens were quite sweet, in her opinion but certainly no match for her mentally. Still she saw no reason not to be nice back. They were from the same clutch and had lessons together. It would please Laszreen too. Good morning to you Nayath. The queen looked about but did not see Nayath's rider anywhere.

Where has your rider gone?Elfreth was not being rude in her own mind, though perhaps she should not have asked that sort of question. What was it to her where the green's rider was. It did not matter really except it seemed odd. Most new riders seemed to cling to their dragons especially during lessons.

Laszreen had not noticed the interaction between the dragons. Elfreth often did things without a thought as to what Laszreen wanted her to do. She did things how she wanted to do them because she could. The rider of the proud gold was waiting patiently for lessons to begin.

On a different band of thought, Nayath squealed, and sent a thought to one of her other friends, an older Blue who had befriended her while she was sunning with the other Greens in her clutch. Starting a conversation with him about how she was actually speaking to the second Queen of the Weyr(who was being nice to her!), she continued her conversation with Elfreth.

Mine is helping Laerth's get ready. Nayath's eyes faded in color slightly. She tried to appear more upbeat. That was what Greens were suppose to do, she knew. That was what they were being taught at least!

Mine is very sweet.

That is very kind of him. A Weyr is only strong when we stick together. Elfreth said, trying to reassure the green though she was not entirely sure that she was helping matters. Mine... What is it darling? I fear I've upset Nayath. The green over there? What did you say? I was being nice but I asked where her rider was and it seems he is not here. She is noticeably upset about it. You will tell the Weyrlingmaster not to punish her rider, won't you? And why should I do that if he is late? He is helping that lazy brown and his rider. The one you don't like.

H'rzet. She grimaced. They had had a fist fight as Candidates. She was not fond of his image of women or his lack of respect for them. A'kere was nothing like that and she could find no fault in helping a friend in need even if one had poor judgment in friends. Of course dear heart. Tell Nayath she needn't worry. I'll talk to the Weyrlingmaster.

Elfreth said in a magnanimous tone,Nayath, do not be concerned. I have informed Laszreen of your situation. Your rider will not be punished for being late this time. The Gold would not have bestowed her kindness on a dragon who was less sweet. She certainly would have ignored any plight of Laerth's because her rider disliked him.

A strong Weyr is a good Weyr. So that we can fight Thread better! Nayath remembered that from lessons. Then Elfreth continued on the conversation.

Nayath wasn't sure if she should be ecstatic, or horrified. A'kere wouldn't be happy if he found out that she'd gotten him out of trouble by talking to Elfreth. Her Rider avoided being noticed at all costs. In a lot of ways, it was their main difference. In fact, it worried the little Green sometimes. However, she reassured herself, it was her job to get him noticed. She wanted him to have lots of friends(like herself!), so that he would never have to be lonely, even if she was distracted, and not paying attention to him when she should.

That's also what Greens were suppose to do. Problem solve! Or maybe that was Golds? No, Browns! No, not Browns, they were suppose to be, hmm, what was the word- oh! Stoic.

But she was ignoring both the Gold and the Blue, so she quickly restarted both conversations.

The rock is really that good for sunning? Well, when I can fly, maybe we'll sun on it together. She replied to the very nice blue.

And to Elfreth;

Oh, that was very kind of you. You didn't need too. But thank you! Nayath didn't seem to noticed the magnanimous tone, or at least, she didn't find it offensive. Nayath was pretty sure Gold's were suppose to sound that way.

Or at least, that's what she had been told in lessons.

"Good morning Laszreen, and to you Elfreth. Did you sleep well?" Asked L'tor with a kindly smile, though in his mind he was dreading the little queen and her rider.
Good morning Elfreth Konath said to the little queen. You look particularly bright today. He said so with sincerity. Her skin was brighter, most of the youngling peeling was off of her, she was practically luminescent. L'tor had noticed instantaneously with his Artist eyes and through him Konath had noted. L'tor looked at the youngling with a smile. Laszreen was a beautiful young woman, intelligent and inquisitive, she would be an excellent addition to the weyr, if she kept her head on straight and adjusted her attitude. He supposed that's how Goldriders were though. Most goldriders filled him with emotions of almost painful dislike, he who thought that everyone was equal as long as they tried to be as kind as they could be. People should always try to improve themselves, without that self evolution humans became stagnant and their minds brittle. He wanted to teach about the unity of the weyr today, to impress that the ranks were not there to dilineate who was better than the others, but rather just to decide who was best for which jobs, and that each dragon and rider had a job to do, each job was important, even the lowliest drudge in the weyr was important to the way the weyr worked. yes, he would talk about that today, for the good of all the younglings. That pretty green, Nayath, where was her rider? He remembered the boy, A'kere was his name.
Male green riders made him slightly uneasy, despite himself. He understood the necessity, it was just slightly strange to him. He didn't have anything against their sexual orientation either, it just made him slightly uncomfortable as a man of the staunchly heterosexual persuasion. They were just younglings , he reminded himself, and he was going to teach them equality. What was wrong with it anyways? Why did he have that knee jerk reaction? It's not like there was something wrong with falling in love with another man. You were attracted to who you were attracted to. The same way he was attracted to women, that boy was undoubtedly the same way with men. If L'tor had been born that way, he wouldn't have a problem with it. L'tor had been acquainted with a few male green riders, and even a female blue rider, but never really been friends with any. He wondered why. Was it because of his own natural recoiling? Or was it just that they didn't share that much in common? He would puzzle it out later, he, as a teacher and mentor to the future of this weyr and pern would put his self aside and focus on the needs of the Weyrlings and their dragons.
'Konath, will you ask where A'kere is? I'm worried that he would be far from his youngling.' L'tor mind spoke him
of course mine
thank you
Elfreth, do you know where A'kere, rider of Nayeth is? Mine is worried as to his absence from his dragon

Laszreen shifted uneasily as they were looked over by the Weyrlingmaster and his brown. The young woman smiled courteously back. "I slept satisfactorily." Which generally meant it was not bad but it was less than any normal human being would require to function on a day to day basis. Laszreen was not normal and never would be. She realized that it was hard for other people to accept who she was and why she rode a Gold.

Normally Goldriders were charming and alluring. Often Laszreen felt she was the opposite of charming and more cute than alluring. It was better that way. The last thing she needed were Bronzers fawning over her and her dragon. Efreth was much more pleasant than her rider though it was to be expected. Thank you Konath. The little Gold would accept a compliment any time especially from those of rank.

The Gold thinking she had said more than enough went back to talking with Laszreen when Konath asked a question she felt nervous about answering. Laszreen answered instead, feeling her Gold's uneasiness when she asked how to answer. "I beg your pardon sir. Brown Laerth would not get up on time this morning, A'kere is helping H'rzet bathe and oil him. You know how stubborn browns can be. Elfreth agrees that it is in our best interest to let the boy help. Teamwork strengthens the Weyr. Who are we if we do not stand together when the going gets rough."

Despite her feelings about the brownrider, Laszreen would defend her classmates. As the rest of the Weyrlings entered, she wondered how much longer the brown and the boys would be. H'rzet had gotten A'kere into enough trouble. Still she could see that they were friends and if she had any she would expect them to help her if she were running late. Laszreen could not recall ever running late. She was too accustomed to being early which was in her mind on time. On time was late. Late was inexcusable.

Nayath suddenly perked up. Ignoring whatever it was that she was suppose to be doing(probably speaking to someone), she waved her tail like a little flag, and bounced noticeably.

Mine, Mine, Mine! She crooned joyously, and counted the seconds until her darling stepped into the classroom.

A'kere, for his part, was not nearly as excited. Two distinct emotions battled for dominance of his mind. The first told him that he should slink along, slowly, and hopefully slip into the class whilst no one was watching. The other was telling him to hustle his rear into the classroom with no delays.

Currently, the latter was winning.

As he stepped into class, the blond flushed red, noticing that everyone had taken their place, excluding, of course, the Goldrider, and the Weyrlingmaster.

"Sorry, sir." A'kere mumbled to L'tor, not waiting to be dismissed as he slunk back to his Green, and attempted to hide behind her(it didn't work).

Laerth followed H'rzet into the classroom. He was ready for what was sure to be a punishment though he kept his head low. The brown had no concept of time for some reason and was generally making H'rzet late. The Weyrling rider was hardly any better at being on time himself. It must be that they were simply not morning people.

The dragon stayed instinctively close to his rider while they went to stand next to A'kere and Nayath. Much preferring the company of the green and her rider than that of the others in their clutch. They'd sit next to anyone except Elfreth and Laszreen. The girl was quite possibly going to ruin his life once out of training.

H'rzet cast his dark sullen gaze on the Weyrlingmaster though it seemed no one was angry or at all put off by the late entries. Nayath had been here she must have covered for them somehow. How he did not know. The green was much to shy to have spoken to the weyrling master herself. Still there was no use trying to figure out the workings of a green's mind.
